Una reseña sobre la frontera de posibilidades de producción

Abstract

As indicated in the title, this paper's objective is to survey the literature on the production possibility frontier. The approach is analytical rather than historical and the idea being to present an up-to-date version of the subject. The paper is divided in two sections. In the first section the frontier is deduced by making explicit, in a detailed form, the assumptions of the basic model. In the second section the assumptions are dropped one at a time to analyze the "robustness" of the frontier's shape. The survey includes a comment on the "other" frontiers existing in the economic literature. The general conclusion is that the production possibility frontier maintains the shape of the basic model (ie.: convexity with respect to the origin) with much weaker assumptions than frequently used.
