Abstract

This article aims to analyze whether China's official rhetoric of greater engagement in African security dynamics since the mid-2000s translates into practical terms in the context of military cooperation with the continent. To this end, it examines the principles underpinning Sino-African relations since the 1950s, as well as China's motivations and possible initiatives in African security dynamics in the 21st century. The hypothesis is that there is a larger Chinese military presence, resulting from the recognition that maintaining the security of its partners meets the objectives of protecting its own interests abroad and ensuring its influence in the region.
