Abstract

Since 1991 Cape Verde has held democratic elections in the three levels of political power: municipal, legislative and presidential. From the constitutional review of 1992, Cape Verdeans, not living in the archipelago, aged 18 or more who are registered in the electoral rolls, have the right to vote.

Cape Verdean residents in Argentina, as part of the so-called “electoral circuit of diaspora” have participated in the last three presidential elections.

The aim of this work is to refer specifically to the political transnationalism in relation to vote of the Cape Verdean community abroad in general, and in Argentina in particular, regarding the exercise of citizenship and identity.

Key words: vote, Africa, Argentina, Cape Verde, transnationalism, citizenship, identities.
