Abstract

The article analyzes the trends that Chile’s foreign policy has followed towards Europe from 1990, when democracy was reestablished in the country, to 2010. The study period coincides with the four successive governments of the policy group Concertación de Partidos por la Democracia. In this line, it is pointed out that the relations with Europe have been among the priorities of the Chilean foreign policy since 1990, representing today Chile’s second trading partner after China, and it is an example of the important openness of Chilean foreign trade under the open regionalism. In addition, the article focuses especially on the Association Agreement between Chile and the European Union in 2002 and an overall assessment of the relation after ten years of their signing is made.
