Abstract

The integration process in North America, particularly for Mexico and the United States, has pass the old regionalism of closed economy where, nevertheless, progress was made in a dynamic regionalization that accentuated intraregional integration, to the new regionalism which turned and accentuate the connection between the two countries from the conjunction of several elements: international relations policy of approaching north and distancing south; open economy model, and incorporation into the NAFTA in 1994. In this paper it is left constancy of the twenty years balances of NAFTA for Mexico in commercial matter and foreign direct investment, as well as the derivation of strategies to move towards a deeper integration between these two associates from North America.
