Aspects related to sexuality emerge implicitly in most forms of tourism and, in some cases, are addressed explicitly and centrally in certain segments of the industry. Consequently, we can affirm that the bibliography in this regard has been prolific throughout the late 20th century and the beginning of the 21st century. However, geographical analyzes focused specifically on the importance of the spatial component in sexual activity as a form of recreation and as a distinctive social feature of tourist destinations are scarce.
This research discusses the geography of tourism based on three fundamental cognitive elements for its development: space, tourism, and sex. Analyzing the conceived and perceived spaces, within the framework of spatial trialectics, a spatial interpretation of the relationship between tourism and sexuality in the Veracruz-Boca del Río Tourist Corridor (CTVBR) is offered, under a historical methodology and techniques of observation. It is concluded that the dynamics and assimilation of space with relation to the tourism-sex link coexists within the complexity of the historicity of urban structure, the plurality of actors, and how they identify and enter various favorable encounter environments related to the tourism-sex connection.
