Henry Mintzberg es escritor, investigador y profesor en la Universidad de McGill en Montreal, Canadá. Desde la publicación en 1983 de su libro Structure in Fives. Designing Effective Organizations, se transformó en un autor reconocido mundialmente y, en nuestro medio, un referente en la bibliografía de las cátedras de administración. El libro profundizó el análisis de la estructura organizacional y, definiendo los parámetros de diseño y los factores contingentes, determinó cinco configuraciones estructurales: estructura simple, burocracia mecánica, burocracia profesional, forma divisional y adhocracia.
