Abstract

The Contingency theory had kept its central role in the study of the design of organizational structures in the last fifty years. Its contributions has gone in different directions, one of them has been the enumeration of contingency factors and subsequently the indentification of their relations with structural elements.

Further refinements have conceptualized the systemic answer that allows organizations “fit” to changes in the contingency factors.

This paper intends to critically review the main conceptualizations of structural fit, and also propose a new explanatory variable under a multi linked dynamic contingency theory framework.
