Algorithms, precarious labor and power: A philosophical critique of digital labor

We put forward a critical reading of platform economy from a philosophical perspective, retrieving Ricardo Gómez’ notion of marco normativo. We focus on how algorithms of labor management, colloquially known as “gig platforms”, incorporate neoliberal philosophical tenets, which carries concrete consequences on the capital-labor relationship. We examine how these technologies reinforce the subordination of labor through algorithmic opacity. We finally reflect on possible strategies and technological alternatives oriented to a more democratic design of digital labor.
