Agroecology is a new field of knowledge, which gathers, synthesizes and applies knowledge from other disciplines with a holistic and systemic perspective and a strong ethical component to generate knowledge and apply it to the development of sustainable agroecosystems. Its appearance and consolidation represent one of the most important events in the area of agricultural sciences in recent years. But, is it an economically viable productive alternative for a country like Argentina, compared to the industrial agro-chemical model? This article addresses this and other issues and proposes various guidelines to guide public policies and produce a change in the socio-productive paradigm of Argentina and the countries of the region.
