The Argentinian Naval Hydrographic Service, created in 1879, is one of the oldest scientific institutions in the country. Its mission is to carry out studies, works, explorations, and research aimed to promote the maximum safety of navigation and to drive the production of scientific knowledge in virtually all disciplines of marine sciences. This paper presents a historical overview of its trajectory, the tasks and projects it is currently carrying out, and the future challenges it intends to face.
