A balance of its agenda after two decades

Almost twenty years after appearing on the science and technology policy agenda, nanosciences and nanotechnologies have managed to establish a name of their own. They have programs, projects and institutes and undergraduate and postgraduate courses that have allowed them to constitute an “ecosystem” and have managed to transcend different administrations. In this work, its evolution, the financing mechanisms with which this field was promoted and the impact that the different policies implemented in the last 10 years had on its development are analyzed. As a result, a certain inconsistency is observed between the explicit policies represented by the discourse and the relevance given to the field at the political level, within the framework of the Argentine STI complex and the implicit policies, expressed in the financing and scope of the implemented projects. It is proposed that this type of analysis on the dynamics of a field of knowledge considered strategic at the state level should be taken into account in terms of learning for the design of science and technology policies that are implemented in the country.
