This paper analyzes the assessment made of the scientific and technological production of applicants to the Career of Scientific Researcher (CIC) of the National Council of Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) of Argentina, in the initial category, called Assistant Researcher. In particular, it discusses the explicit evaluation criteria for admission to this career, in its different modalities and areas of knowledge, which were disseminated by CONICET in the 2018-2019 calls, which were categorized for comparative purposes to identify the relative value assigned in each area to scientific production. In addition, in order to analyze how these general criteria are applied in the different sub-commissions, issues observed in opinions received by applicants were taken into account. Finally, a series of proposals are presented that are considered to contribute to decentralizing the place of the paper as a central factor in the evaluation.
