Abstract

Interview with Catherine (“Cathy”) Helen O’Neil, born in the United States, known world wide for her critical studies on the negative effects of algorithms. PhD in Mathematics from Harvard University, she is the author of the books Doing Data Science (2013), Weapons of Math Destruction (2016) and The Shame Machine (2022). After working for the financial sector as a data scientist, she launched ORCAA, analgorithmic auditing firm. She is a regular contributor to Bloomberg Opinion news agency, author of the blog <mathbabe.org> and member of the Public Interest Tech Lab at the Harvard Kennedy School.
