Abstract

The subject of this paper is to entail theory and policy in the field of welfare economics, in particular the questions that arise from the trade-off between efficiency and equity. At first, the subject is studied in a general way. Then a particular welfare function which allows us introduce alternative value judgments is used. Two relevant questions to economic policy are analyzed: a measurement of the inequality in income distribution and the trade off efficiency-equity; and the evaluation of a particular policy. The developments are shown with simple exercises referred to argentine economy.
