The concept of scientificide

In recent years, the term “scientificide” (also called “scienticide”) has begun to spread in reference to processes of total or partial destruction of a system of scientific-technological knowledge production. This article describes the emergence of the term, proposes a conceptual definition of the phenomenon, characterizes it in terms of its execution levels, motivations and actors, explores its possible application to different historical situations and applies it to the reality of science and technology in Argentina. The aim is to understand this phenomenon in its complexity, in order to have the tools to confront or reverse it.
